Middle Bolton Lake is in Vernon and is an artificial impoundment in the Thames River Drainage Basin that has an earthen and concrete dam. The watershed is 1,946 acres of mostly woods and wetland with moderate amounts of agricultural and residential development. The lake is fed by surface runoff and from overflow of Upper Bolton Lake. The lake drains into Lower Bolton Lake via a spillway over the dam.
The transparency of the lake is fair with visibility up to 8 ft. in late summer. The bottom of the lake is mostly sand, gravel, rubble and boulders covered by organic muck. Largemouth bass are abundant and stockpiled in smaller sizes with larger fish being uncommon. The fishing should also be fair to good for sunfish and yellow perch.

Ramp Comments: A state-owned launch is located on the northern shore. Facilities at the launch include a ramp with concrete slabs, parking for 5 cars, and chemical toilets (seasonal). From Rte. 6 and I-384, take Rte. 44 east for 1.8 miles, left on Cedar Swamp Rd. for 1.5 miles, left on Vernon Branch Rd./Hatch Hill Rd., launch is 0.6 miles on left just after the causeway.
